Short answer: Aviva Signature offers legal-minimum European cover without the optional Foreign Use benefit. With the Foreign Use option, the published maximum is 90 days for one trip and 180 for the year.
Published cover by policy tier
This table summarises the insurer’s published information for the selected country; it is not a personalised insurance quote or a confirmation that your own cover is active.
| Insurer tier | Published overseas cover | Travel-day limit |
|---|---|---|
| Signature (without Foreign Use) | Legal minimum liability only | Confirm policy booklet |
| Signature comprehensive + Foreign Use | Same as home policy, subject to conditions | 180 days / policy year; 90 days / trip |
Does the number of days matter?
Where the insurer sets a policy-year total, count days across previous visits, not just the current trip. Where the insurer provides a per-trip ceiling, that restriction applies alongside any annual cap. If the published overview does not define how days are counted, ask for written clarification before relying on the figure.
Proof of insurance and other gaps
The insurer’s own certificate and current policy wording govern the insured vehicle, named drivers, destination, extensions and exclusions. Confirm legal proof-of-insurance requirements at your destination. Breakdown assistance, recovery costs, transit insurance, rental-car cover and local registration can be separate from ordinary motor-insurance cover.

Other Aviva product lines: Aviva, Aviva Gold, Aviva Platinum and AvivaPlus Premium list Foreign Use as included as standard, subject to policy wording. AvivaPlus Basic does not offer Foreign Use. Aviva also describes cover as similar to, rather than identical to, home cover; some ancillary benefits do not travel. See Aviva’s current product information.
