Not sure which policy tier you have?

Open your latest policy schedule or certificate and look for the product name or cover level. An annual renewal may change it. If you cannot identify the tier, ask your insurer before relying on a result.

BUILT FOR THE REAL QUESTIONS

A small detail.
A very big difference.

“Insured abroad” can mean different things. Here is how to avoid taking the wrong kind of reassurance on the road.

01 / THE LEVEL

Minimum ≠ comprehensive

Legal third-party liability may cover damage you cause to others, but not damage to your own vehicle.

02 / THE CLOCK

Trip limits vs annual limits

30 days across your policy year is not the same as 30 days every trip. We account for days already used.

03 / THE BORDER

The right proof matters

Green Card rules, Mexican liability policies and cross-border territorial restrictions differ by market.

WHY TRUST THIS RESULT?

Proof, not
promises.

We link to the actual insurer and government publications behind each finding. If a policy or destination is not supported by that evidence, the result says so. Your current policy certificate and written insurer confirmation always take precedence.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Does UK car insurance automatically cover driving in Europe? +

GOV.UK confirms that active UK motor insurance provides at least the minimum third-party cover in the EU (including Ireland) and certain other countries. That does not necessarily include fire, theft or damage to your own vehicle. The extended cover and maximum days depend on your insurer and tier. GOV.UK source ↗

Is a Green Card required to drive from the UK to France or Ireland? +

No Green Card is normally required for those journeys, but valid insurance is mandatory. Other destinations may require a Green Card or border insurance; check every transit country as well. Official guidance ↗

Does my US car insurance work in Canada? +

Some insurers, including Progressive and GEICO, confirm their US personal auto policies extend to Canada. USAA confirms liability cover for its insured vehicle. Actual benefits depend on your declarations and whether the car is yours or rented. Compare examples ↗

Will my US insurance satisfy Mexican car-insurance laws? +

Do not assume so. Mexican-issued motor liability insurance is generally needed. Even if a limited US policy benefit applies near the border, it is not a substitute for the locally required liability policy. Read Mexico guide ↗

Can I use this checker for rental cars or an imported vehicle? +

No. The checker is designed for an active personal motor policy on your own normally registered car during temporary travel. Rentals, leases, permanent relocations, temporary imports, trailers, commercial use and special endorsements require separate checks with the relevant insurer and authorities.
